V&A Museum Bags with Biothene

Victoria & Albert (V&A) Museum, located at south Kensington, presents diverse works from five continentals of the world. I visited there half day during my trip to 2012 Information Design Conference at London, UK. The souvenir bags from V&A Museum represents British lifestyle and nature with paper cutting alike illustrations. What interesting to me is a sentence description shown on the bottom of the bag says “this bag is made from biothene [with its mark] degradable material which degrades within approximately 18 months,” according to the technical data sheet from Biothene. It also states that “biothene  is an additive which degrades polythene under the influence of light & heat. …The active agent is a metal ion and a catalyst which is added to the polythene when it is extruded. These react with sunlight and this reaction starts to break the molecular chains down in the material. ” The company claims that they are producing the environmentally friendly alternative to plastic bags. The concepts and actions for environmental protection are vital things to do!
